Another sign of school coming...

A NEW BACKPACK FOR THE SOON-TO-BE PRESCHOOLER! It came in the mail today and he was so super excited, it was so funny. He immediately started walking around the house filling it with things "for school". I cannot believe he will be 3 soon and starting school. My little buddy is getting so big. I'll miss him, I'm sure, but I know he will be soooo happy to finally get to go where Sissy goes.

Summertime...

Ahhh, there is nothing better about summer than the lack of a schedule. Although, despite not committing to anything, we are busier than ever this summer! We are getting lots of fun in, though. Everyday when I am laying out by the pool all I can think about is how grateful I am to be there with my kids enjoying our summer. I can feel fall approaching fast- preschool forms are coming, doctor's appts need to be made, the kids' feet are growing out of their shoes, and Big Boy is just a few short weeks away from being 3!

My kids are fighting worse than ever this summer and between that and the potty training I feel like I am losing my mind half the time. I keep saying how excited I am for school to start but when I really think about it I start to change my mind a little. With Sis in school everyday we will be getting up EARLY every morning. The kids will be exhausted from waking early and school so we'll pick up, have lunch, and nap. There will be much less variety in our schedule that's for sure!

So, fall or summer? Kids both in school at least 3 days a week, naps probably daily...hmmm, very tempting. Laying by the pool, skipping nap to eat snow cones and run errands, late summer nights and sleeping in the next day...it's a close race!

Some summer pics so far-

I love this picture b/c you can see Big Boy's Woody that he threw in the air as he was being thrown, too, by my brother:

Sissy had two fun weeks of Vacation Bible School. Nothing better. She loved them both, went with her friends, and I had some FREE free time w/ Big Boy.

On the last day they performed all their songs- I was shocked when Sissy went up front to dance!

Fourth of July

I'm way behind, but have lots of pics from the Fourth to share! It was kind of an interesting weekend- not knowing whether it was going to rain or not every night!

On the Fourth we went to my mom's for dinner/fireworks. Pat and I were trying to recall if had ever rained on the fourth of July before in our lifetime! The skies looked a little dreary but we knew we would at least eat some good food. We had an awesome dinner and the sky looked good so my sister and I headed into Andover to buy a ton of fireworks!

We started off by taking family pictures. We do it every year and every year they go on our Christmas card so I beg for some decent ones:

And it wouldn't be family picture time without one of Big Boy crossing his eyes. Stinker!

We were in Andover all night and the weather was fine. However, when we got home we could tell it had clearly been raining in Bel Aire most the evening. Unfortunately for us, even though it was almost 11, the rain was just letting up and so everyone went outside to shoot them off. Our neighbors about drove me crazy but I felt bad for them so we let it go. ;)

The night before we spent the evening at Gma and Gpa McLain's for some good food and fireworks as well. We were not as lucky as far as the weather went, it was lightly raining for most of the night. However, we still got to sit in the garage and the men still ran out in the rain and put on a show for us so we really enjoyed it! The kids got to play and see their cousin.

T thinking he can light his own firework. MAYBE WHEN HE IS 18! Can you imagine that child with firecrackers?

We had a great Fourth of July weekend with 3 days of food and fireworks so overall it was very successful!

Colorado Vacation Part 3

We had a great adventure hiking/mountain climbing at the Garden of the Gods. It is a huge, free nature park known for it's trails and rock formations. my pictures won't even be close to doing it justice...
You can see Pikes Peak from any high rock

We also had to spend a couple hours just down the street at the creek. The kids had a blast.

ODE TO THE CABIN:
The week after we left the cabin construction started on our brand new one that will be going up just behind the current one, up the mountain a bit. The city would not let my family leave the old one up so it will be torn down in November. It was a very bittersweet trip knowing that this would be my last trip to this cabin.

The cabin was built in the 1920s and last fall my family (my dad and his siblings) decided that we would remodel or replace the current cabin. Because of it's age, the pipes and electric was going to be so costly to replace they decided to tear the current one down and build a brand new one on our property a little further up the mountain. My cousin and uncle (architect and engineer) have designed the new ones themselves and at the family reunion we saw the new plans and they are great. It will be better than staying in any hotel, it will be beautiful. The whole front will be windows so the view will be amazing and there will be more bedrooms, beds, baths, and two decks. Very exciting, but still very sad. I'll miss our cabin as is but will always remember it and the wonderful times I've had there...

And that's it folks. I said a very tearful goodbye and we headed home. We can't wait to go back next year.
