I should be blogging about our Spring Break. Or the fact that we have a $3000 pipe problem lurking under our home right now. Or that I'm back on my exercise plan after being sick for weeks.
But all I want to do is talk about basketball today because my beloved Wildcats are playing in the Sweet 16 tonight!
I'll back up a little. I lived most of my life in Manhattan, Kansas and attended many Kansas State basketball games as a child AND graduated from the university. One of my best friends as a child was the daughter of KSU's coach so I got to attend some fun things with her. My family held season tickets to the football games when hardly anyone else did- you could walk around the bleachers and sit wherever you wanted. I have always loved and supported KSU.
But sometime in high school, after moving to Wichita, I got in with a bad crowd of KU fans and starting paying attention to KU
basketball. And I fell in love. Mainly with Kirk Hinrich.

And my friends and family were humiliated and many to this day will still disown me when I cheer for KU. I have a very weird and very competitive feel for basketball- I played it most of my life. I got a technical foul in my first varsity game. I was very passionate about the game. So I developed a connection with KU basketball and have forever loved it.
Cut to last weekend- number one overall seeded Kansas fell. If you were living within 2 blocks of my house you heard me screaming. The kids were shuffled away behind closed doors so that I could express myself fully. Oh yeah, I get like that. And I got teary. I will hold hope for next year.
However, I still have one of my teams in- my wonderful Wildcats. Although my college friends tell me that I cannot root for both, I am absolutely sick right now with anticipation over tonight. I'm so nervous, you'd think I was playing. I hope the Cats kick some a$$. I hope they keep advancing throughout the tournament. And I hope I don't keep my neighbors awake screaming tonight when they play!

Weekend getaway
Well, for starters I have been pretty much MIA for everything in my life lately. Several weeks ago I came down with a cold, then added a bit of stomach flu, and then finally I was off to the doctor with a diagnosis of bronchitis, sinus, and ear infections. Yikes. This thing has completely knocked me out for weeks. It has been almost 3 weeks since I've been able to work out or basically function at any normal level at all. I have asthma so the bronchitis is really hard on my lungs- I am dreading heading back to the Y next week!
But, thanks to antibiotics and lots of other meds I was well enough to make the trip to Lawrence last weekend for Pat's cousin's wedding. I'm so glad we got to go, it was so much fun! It seems like so long since we have been away with the kids. And even though it was just for a night it felt like a mini-vacation. Best of all, our children were little angels which makes everything so much easier.
When we first got to the wedding I was scared TO DEATH. The chapel was very tiny and my son has a very loud, booming voice that echoed through it. But with the help of a little snack and the fact that the ceremony was about 10 minutes long (best.wedding.ever.) we were able to get through it without disturbing the happy couple. We headed outside to wish them off and head to the reception:
Love those dimples on my boys:
What? What is this? Pictures with me in them???? I was determined to document myself with my family!
Gotta love my two babies dancing together!
Cousins Big Boy, O, and Sis
Big Boy was dead set on having his very own picture of his with O in his lap. It took him about 3 minutes of him screaming at me before I realized that is what he wanted! What a big boy!
So embarrassing, my son. Trying to take a good picture with Grandma but all he wanted to do was show, as usual, how he could cross his eyes. After several attempt this one has the LEAST amount of eye-crossing!
The Big Boy! Went the whole entire wedding day dry! Even on the car ride up there! He's become a pro at the potty. He still usually doesn't tell me he has to go but he'll hold it and I just have to take him every couple hours. Go T!
The McLain men:
Kids fave part of trip- a hotel with a swimming pool! They had a blast, we all had a fun swim and soak in the hot tub.
Good times! Makes us eager to plan our summer vacation! ;)
