Terrible Towels

The Terrible Towel is a fan symbol associated with the Pittsburgh Steelers, an American football team in the National Football League (NFL). Created in 1975 by then Steelers radio broadcaster Myron Cope, the Towel has since become "arguably the best-known fan symbol of any major pro sports team".

I hate these things. During the first 20 minutes of the game (and pre-game) I had these stupid things in every picture I took.

Pat and I went north to Kansas City this weekend to see the Chiefs vs. Steelers game. We were very excited to go to this game, the Steelers being the defending Super Bowl champs and all, and we had ashamedly low expectations for the outcome of the game.

HOWEVER when the Chiefs opened the game with a touchdown punt return and then managed to play a good game the towels were silenced and I had lost my voice from all of the screaming. I myself am a pretty competitive person so it felt so good to rub it in to all of the irritating Steeler fans. At a game like this, with an opponent like this, there were just as many Steeler fans as Chiefs fans so you could count on most of the people around you being against your team. That can get really irritating after awhile. So we were, of course, overjoyed to send the Steelers home with a loss and to see those stupid towels stuffed into back pockets rather than being waved in your face. (and your pictures)

We also busted out Christmas decorations this weekend. We got the tree put up (although I am going to hold out on the ornaments a little longer) and got lots of our decor put up. The kids were so excited to see the tree up and especially happy to open our Christmas books/toys/movies box. There is already a lot of talk about the naughty and nice list here and threats to call Santa have already been issued.

We had movie night and watched the Grinch and Rudolph movies. I bought my Christmas favorite, a popcorn tin with 3 popcorn flavors, and the kids had a great time chowing down and getting into the Christmas spirit.

Sissy had a fun gymnastics party to attend this weekend. As usual she was very shy at first and hesitant to do everything until she processed it but before long she was showing off her gymnastics skills. She cried when we left, she had so much fun.

And today at school we had Sis' Thanksgiving Party at preschool. Fun for Sis, but much more fun for Big Boy. He thought it was the best thing ever. This year he is the only younger sibling in Sissy's class- unbelievable- so he gets lots of attention from the adults and kids as well as Nana who was there for the party. They had food, games, and songs. It was very cute.

Catch up!

Well, it's been almost a month since I have written my last blog post. I guess this time of year we take what we can get as far as time goes and do the best we can! We've been nonstop since Halloween and are looking forward to Christmas!

I'm going to make a quick catch up post to work backwards which will of course be filled with a ton of pictures, as my camera card is full! The kids are being hilarious, as I type this. The new favorite in our house is Peter Pan, which they are watching. The kids love to pretend they can fly by jumping off couches, pretend they are pirates, pretend they are Indians. It's so funny!

Playing the other day- the first time I have ever seen Big Boy pick up a baby! He knew right away what to do and went and got a bottle for it.

Sissy is doing great at ballet. They have a Christmas performance in a couple weeks that we are really looking forward to.

Sis had "Dad's Night" at preschool last week. She was so excited to take Daddy to school and they had a great time.

Big Boy did not appreciate being left out so I had to get some pictures of him as well.

A few weeks ago we had a birthday party at Pump It Up, which I was really dreading. Sis is not a fan so I don't have to worry about her but Big Boy is constantly trying to get me to take him on the big slide, such a battle. However this time he discovered he could go by himself! It took him about 15 minutes each time to climb the ladder leading to the top but he thought it was the best thing ever and did it all night long.

Sissy is definitely moving away from napping. Although, thank goodness, she still has "quiet time" in her bed in her room every day where she plays Barbies and Polly Pockets. She does a great job and will play for a couple hours easy. Then 5:00 hits...and she falls asleep wherever she is! And every night Big Boy gives her about 10 minutes of sleep before he dances around her and then hugs on her until she wakes up. Torture for Sissy.

We had a fabulous, most beautiful night trick-or-treating! First we went to a friend's house where the kids played and the adults had some drinks until it got dark. Then we went to our old neighborhood and hit the jackpot.

Some of the houses were really into it. It was so much fun. Lots of people dressed up and lots of decorations. Big Boy loved it all "bye bye monsters" he would say. And a big "THANK YOU" at every house as he tried to take all of the candy in their bowl. Even Sissy got really into it and was leading the way the whole evening.

Why I love my Big Boy so much- the progression of his fits, caught on film. First a dirty look and arms crossed- he means business:

Gma McLain came over and we carved some great pumpkins! One for each of us as usual- Big Boy's, Sissy's, mine, and Pat's.

I took them out and lit them then brought the kids out. Their initial reaction was hilarious- they were so excited.

This year we went to the Halloween event the Wichita Children's Theater puts on every year. It was a lot of fun. Gma K came to help out and the kids had a blast preparing for Halloween.
